About Heather Grawe, Individual, Couples, Trauma and Christian Therapy in Northfield, MN
Hi and welcome! My name is Heather and I’m glad you’re here.
My Path To Therapy
I’ve always been interested in health and in people. For over a decade, I thought I wanted to be a doctor. But then just before I graduated from college, I realized that as much as the human body fascinates me, what I really loved and felt called to was working with people in the broader context of health. Physical health clearly matters, but so does our emotional, mental, relational, and spiritual health: they all work together and I really enjoy paying attention to each of them.
I completed my BA in biology and psychology at St. Olaf College and my graduate degree in marriage and family therapy from The Family Institute at Northwestern University in Illinois. Soon after, my husband and I moved back to Minnesota where I have been licensed as an LMFT since 2003.
Being entrusted with personal stories and struggles is a sacred privilege that I don’t take for granted. I love the tenacity of the human spirit. It is a profound honor and blessing to get to walk alongside fellow humans in their therapy journeys; I will always be grateful for this.
THIS WORK HAS ALWAYS BEEN ABOUT RELATIONSHIP
Meeting with a new therapist can feel daunting, so it might be helpful to learn a bit about what it’s like to work with me. My style is warm and approachable, engaged and curious, collaborative and encouraging. I’m highly attuned to you: connecting with you, seeking to understand your life and experiences, and clarifying what you are hoping to achieve.
Our work together involves a rich feedback loop. I pay attention to your cues and adjust my approach for the greatest possible growth. At times, you might experience lots of quiet and space for exploring and processing. Other times, I am more directive and provide supportive challenges to help move you forward. I prioritize connecting with you because the quality of our relationship offers a vessel for powerful transformation.
Things I Believe
Your story is worth understanding
Connection is the foundation for healing
When we feel safe and understood, we can begin to explore what has brought us here and what we hope to create moving forward.
You are not a problem to be solved
You are a whole person with a story, strengths, and the ability to create meaningful change.
Every person brings a unique combination of experiences, relationships, and circumstances that shape the way they see themselves and the world.
Growth happens with compassion and support
Through increased awareness, new perspectives, and intentional steps forward, therapy can help you reconnect with yourself and the life you want to build.

A few tidbits about me
dear husband and I have four delightful children—three young adults and a teenager.
I have endured times of suffering, and I am a better therapist for it.
Jesus is my Redeemer, the Anchor of my soul, and the Source of my freedom and joy; my love for Him impacts all of my life.
I enjoy spending time with family and friends, nature, being on water, music, savoring good food, reading, running (or maybe more accurately, the endorphins that come with it :), chocolate chip cookies, the North Shore, traveling, and pondering life. I’ve been married since 1997, and my
